Offense powers Sooners past Bobcats

Mar 22, 2015 - 12:46 AM Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Gabbi Ortiz netted 16 points to lead a group of six scorers in double figures for the fifth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners as they powered past the 12th-seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats, 111-84, in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at Maples Pavilion.

Vionise Pierre-Louis and Maddie Manning each netted 15 points, while Pierre- Louis added nine rebounds for Oklahoma (21-11). McKenna Treece chipped in with 14 points, Kaylon Williams added 12 and Sharane Campbell collected 11 points with nine boards in the victory.

The Sooners move on to the second round of the tournament, where they will face fourth-seeded Stanford on Monday.

Jasmine Martin scored 23 points and pulled down five rebounds to pace Quinnipiac (31-4), which saw a 21-game win streak come to an end. Gillian Abshire notched 12 points with six assists, and Maria Napolitano and Adily Martucci added 10 apiece off the bench. Samantha Guastella also contributed 10 points in the loss.

Oklahoma buried 55.6 percent of its field goal attempts in the game, including 13-of-29 from 3-point distance, while the Bobcats made just 34.8 percent from the floor. The Sooners also held a 48-32 advantage in rebounding in the win.
