Stanford bulls by Matadors in first round
Mar 22, 2015 - 12:46 AM Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Taylor Greenfield netted 19 points on 7- of-13 shooting to lead her fourth-seeded Stanford Cardinal past the 13th- seeded Cal State Northridge Matadors, 73-60, in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at Maples Pavilion.Stanford (25-9) advances to the second round of the tournament and will take on the fifth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners on Monday.
Lili Thompson contributed 17 points with four assists for the Cardinal, while Bonnie Samuelson added 14 points and five rebounds. Erica McCall chipped in with 10 points, and Kaylee Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the team in the win.
Ashlee Guay scored a game-high 27 points on 11-of-23 shooting to pace Cal State Northridge (23-10). Camille Mahlknecht added eight points and six rebounds in the defeat.
Stanford was able to hit on 51 percent of its field goal attempts in the game. The Cardinal outscored the Matadors from the free-throw line in the win, 19-4.
