Sun Devils torch Bobcats in first-round action

Mar 22, 2015 - 1:22 AM Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Katie Hempen netted 23 points as her third- seeded Arizona State Sun Devils cruised past the 14th-seeded Ohio Bobcats, 74-55, in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.

Sophie Brunner collected 14 points with six rebounds and three steals to aid Arizona State (28-5), while Arnecia Hawkins came off the bench to add 12 points in the win. Elisha Davis dished out six assists.

The Sun Devils move on to the second round of the tournament, and will host 11th-seeded Arkansas-Little Rock on Monday.

Quiera Lampkins scored 17 points to lead Ohio (27-5), but she also turned the ball over five times. Kiyanna Black contributed 12 points in the losing effort.

Arizona State forced 18 Ohio turnovers, which the Sun Devils converted into 20 points. ASU also held a 21-11 advantage in bench scoring in the lopsided victory.
