Maryland ends Princeton's perfect season in second round

Mar 24, 2015 - 12:48 AM College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tigers had no answer for Laurin Mincy as the top-seeded Maryland Terrapins defeated previously undefeated No. 8 seed Princeton, 85-70, in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tournament at the XFINITY Center.

Mincy tallied 27 points and seven assists for Maryland (32-2), which also received 23 points courtesy of Lexie Brown. Tierney Pfriman scored 11 points and Shatori Walker-Kinbrough had 10 points, while Brionna Jones registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Terrapins will advance to face Duke in the Sweet 16.

Princeton (31-1) suffered its first loss of the campaign despite a strong showing by Blake Dietrick, who poured in 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor. Vanessa Smith posted 15 points and Alex Wheatley contributed 10.

The Tigers went into halftime trailing, 42-38. Maryland knocked down 7-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc in the second period to pull away.

Princeton's win over Green Bay in the first round marked the first in program history. The Terrapins victory over the Tigers was their 26th in a row, which is a school record.
