(AP) Courtney Range scored 20 points and No. 21 California beat UC Riverside 64-58 on Friday.UC Riverside (2-1) led throughout much of the first half and Clemence Lefebvre's 3-pointer gave the Highlanders a 35-30 lead early in the third quarter. Asha Thomas and Mikayla Cowling made 3-pointers to end the quarter with Cal leading 52-46 and putting the Bears (3-0) ahead for good.
Brittany Crain had a basket and 3-pointer to get UC Riverside within 60-58 with 4:25 left but the Highlanders missed their last seven shots and had three turnovers. Cowling and Range scored Cal's final four points.
Range had four 3-pointers and is 7 of 14 this season. Thomas finished with 16 points and Kristine Anigwe 10.
Rejane Verin had 17 points, 13 in the first half, and 10 rebounds for the Highlanders. Crain added 12 points and Simone DeCoud 11.
Cal is 5-1 all-time against UC Riverside.
