Thomas, Moore lead UConn to blowout win
Nov 11, 2007 - 10:03 PM STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Freshman Maya Moore had 21 points and 10 rebounds in her college debut Sunday, leading No. 2 Connecticut to a 98-35 rout over Stony Brook in the season opener.Mel Thomas also scored 21 - including five 3-pointers - and Tina Charles added 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting for Connecticut, which has not lost an opener since 1995 and improved to 19-4 in season openers under coach Geno Auriemma.
The Huskies (1-0) opened with a 26-2 run in the first 13 minutes and held a 50-14 lead at half.
Dana Ferraro had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Seawolves (1-1).
