West Virginia tops Rhode Island in final of URI Invitational
Nov 24, 2007 - 10:26 PM KINGSTON, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- LaQuita Owens scored 22 points and Olayinka Sanni added 21 as 17th-ranked West Virginia rolled to an 80-47 victory over Rhode Island in the championship game of the URI Invitational on Saturday.Owens was nearly perfect from the field, knocking down 9-of-10 shots including four of her five attempts from 3-point range.
Sanni was not to be overlooked, making 10-of-14 of her shots and grabbing seven rebounds.
Meg Bulger chipped in 19 points and seven boards for the Mountaineers (5-1), who finished 60 percent (31-of-52) from the field and shot 11-of-17 on 3-pointers.
Safi Mojidi sank five 3-pointers en route to netting 21 points for the Rams (3-3), who were outscored 38-8 in the paint.
