Big South's top scorer to miss rest of season

Feb 4, 2016 - 12:50 AM ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) Winthrop forward Erica Williams, the Big South Conference's leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season with a broken foot.

Eagles coach Kevin Cook announced Williams' status Wednesday.

Williams had averaged 16.4 points this season to lead the league. The 5-foot-10 junior was injured late in Winthrop's 58-50 loss to Charleston Southern on Saturday. Cook held out hope the injury was not as serious and that Williams might only miss a few weeks. However, he said Wednesday that surgery has been scheduled to repair the break, meaning Williams would not return.

The Eagles (3-18) have lost three straight heading into Saturday's game at Gardner-Webb.
