Duke overwhelms Winthrop in first round
Mar 22, 2014 - 7:29 PM Durham, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Tricia Liston scored 20 points and Kendall McCravey-Cooper had a double-double as the second-seeded Duke Blue Devils cruised past the 15th-seeded Winthrop Eagles for an 87-45 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Cameron Indoor Stadium.McCravey-Cooper had 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting to go with 10 rebounds for Duke (28-6), which will face seventh-seed DePaul in the next round. Oderah Chidom added 17 points, Haley Peters had 11 and Elizabeth Williams tacked on 10.
Dequesha McClanahan netted 22 points for Winthrop (24-9), while Samiya Wright chipped in 12.
Duke was dominant from start to finish. The Blue Devils took a 41-17 lead at the break, after shooting 54.8 percent from the floor, while holding Winthrop to 20.7 percent.
The second half was no different, with Duke totaling more field goals in the frame (17) than the Eagles had in the game overall (15).
Duke outscored Winthrop 42-6 in the paint and 26-11 off of turnovers.
