Davis steps down as Tennessee Tech women's basketball coach

Mar 1, 2016 - 1:22 AM COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Jim Davis is stepping down after four seasons as the Tennessee Tech women's basketball coach.

Tennessee Tech issued a release Monday saying Davis was retiring. Davis said in a statement that he and his wife ''had a wonderful four years here, and we wouldn't trade that for anything. It's time to move on to another chapter in our lives.''

Davis went 47-72 at Tennessee Tech, including a 10-19 mark this season. Tennessee Tech didn't qualify for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament that starts Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee.

He coached Clemson to a 355-197 record and 14 NCAA Tournament appearances from 1987-2005. Davis was 19-8 at Middle Tennessee in 1986-87 and 127-35 at Roane State Community College from 1979-85. He was an assistant with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx in 2009.
