East Carolina knocks off NC State, beats first ranked foe
Dec 10, 2007 - 12:57 AM GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Jasmine Young scored 22 points and LaCoya Terry added 19 and 10 assists as East Carolina recorded an 89-82 victory over No. 24 North Carolina State on Sunday.Nicole Days added 13 points for the Pirates (4-5), who claimed their first win over a ranked opponent. They also beat the Wolfpack for the first time since February 2, 1982.
Young, who shot 6-of-11 from the field, connected on one of her three 3-pointers for a 51-48 lead with 12:42 remaining.
Although NC State managed to close within a point, East Carolina responded with a 17-5 run, pulling ahead 68-55 on a three-point play by Young with under seven minutes to play.
Khadijah Whittington scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Wolfpack (8-3), who lost despite holding a 47-37 advantage on the boards, including 20-7 on the offensive end.
