Illinois women lose leading scorer Chatrice White
Apr 15, 2016 - 8:32 PM CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) Illinois women's basketball coach Matt Bollant says leading scorer and rebounder Chatrice White plans to transfer.Bollant said Friday that White has been granted a release. Bollant said he wishes her ''all the best.''
White averaged 18.7 points and 9.3 rebounds a game as a sophomore for a 9-21 team. She is a former McDonald's All-American from Shelby, Nebraska.
White's exit adds to the struggles of the team. Earlier this week, the university settled a lawsuit with seven former players who accused Bollant and some staff of creating a racially hostile environment.
White's father, Bob White, said he does not believe those allegations and insisted his daughter enjoyed Illinois. But he said she hopes to increase her odds of both playing post-season college basketball and playing pro basketball.
No one has shouted yet.
