Starks, Texas A&M hold off NC A&T
Dec 31, 2007 - 5:32 AM COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Takia Starks had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Danielle Gant scored 20 as No. 12 Texas A&M defeated pesky North Carolina A&T, 74-65, on Sunday.Texas A&M (11-2) scored the final 10 points of the first half to take a 42-32 lead at the break. North Carolina A&T went on a 15-0 spurt early in the second half to take a 47-45 advantage with 10:11 remaining.
But Starks made a 3-pointer to kick start a 13-3 spurt that gave Texas A&M the lead for good at 65-57 with 2:31 to play.
Amber Bland had 23 points and Ta'Wuana Cook added 15 for North Carolina A&T (7-4), which made just 13-of-23 free-throw attempts (57 percent) for the game.
