Thomas scores 19 as top-ranked UConn routs Army

Dec 31, 2007 - 8:08 PM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Mel Thomas scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, as top-ranked Connecticut routed Army, 82-33, on Monday.

Thomas made her first seven shots as the Huskies (11-0) took a 17-3 lead to put the Black Knights (6-6) away early. Army responded with an 8-0 run before UConn went on a 14-2 spurt and was not challenged again, taking a 47-15 lead into the break.

Thomas, who played only 26 minutes, moved past Sue Bird and Jennifer Rizzotti into fourth place on UConn's career 3-point list with 212.

Cara Enright scored a team-high seven points and Erin Anthony added four points and nine rebounds for Army.

Renee Montgomery scored 12 points for UConn and freshman Maya Moore added 11 points and six assists. Moore has scored in double figures in all 11 games this season. Charde Houston, starting for the first time since November 22, scored 10 points and had four steals for the Huskies.

UConn, which won its first 10 games by an average of 41 points, held Army to 28 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers. The Black Knights were the ninth team this season the Huskies have defeated by at least 30 points.
