Hampton's career high sparks California over Arizona State
Jan 18, 2008 - 5:37 AM TEMPE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Devanei Hampton had a career-high 28 points and nine rebounds and Ashley Walker added 13 points as ninth-ranked California got off to a hot start en route to a 64-51 victory over No. 25 Arizona State in Pac-10 Conference action on Thursday.Ashley Walker added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (16-2, 7-0 Pac-10), who are off to their best start since the 1983-84 season (17-2) and took over sole possesion of first place in the conference.
The Bears (16-2, 7-0 Pac-10) scored the game's first 16 points and held a 34-21 lead at the break.
Arizona State (11-6, 5-1) cut the deficit to 47-42 with just over eight minutes to play, but Walker scored the next seven points to boost California's lead to 12 with 5:24 remaining.
Briann January scored 16 points and Lauren Lacey added 10 for the Sun Devils, who shot just 33 percent (18-of-57) from the field - including a dismal 1-of-12 from the arc.
