Zellous, Pittsburgh hold off St. John's
Jan 23, 2008 - 5:34 AM JAMAICA, New York (Ticker) -- Shavonte Zellous scored 28 points and Marcedes Walker added 12 and 11 rebounds as No. 21 Pittsburgh remained unbeaten in the Big East with a 70-64 victory over St. John's on Tuesday.Winners of nine in a row, the Panthers (15-3, 5-0 Big East) had a 33-21 lead at the break and led by as many as 23 in the second half before the Red Storm tried to make a late comeback.
St. John's (10-8, 1-4) used a 9-0 spurt to cut the Panthers' lead to 66-60, but was unable to get any closer as Zellous made all four of her free-throw attempts down the stretch.
Kristin Moore had 15 points off the bench for St. John's, which shot 21 percent (7-of-33) in the first half and were just 5-of-19 from the arc during the contest.
