Morrow leads Baylor past Kansas State

Feb 2, 2008 - 10:39 PM MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- Jessica Morrow scored 16 points and handed out four assists as No. 6 Baylor posted a 63-49 Big 12 Conference victory over No. 21 Kansas State on Saturday.

Rachel Allison had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Danielle Wilson scored 10 for the Lady Bears (20-1, 8-0 Big 12), who are off to their best start in school history.

The win was tempered by the loss of starting guard Jhasmin Player, who suffered a knee injury during the first half. Coach Kim Mulkey said an MRI would be performed on Sunday on the 5-foot-10 junior, who had been averaging 12.6 points and 6.3 rebounds.

"She is heartbroken," Mulkey said. "Jhasmin is one of our captains. No one outworks Jhasmin Player. We just wanted to hug her and love on her and say all the good things you can. We were happy that we won, but those tears were from Jhasmin being hurt."

Morrow connected on 7-of-13 from the floor for Baylor, which began the second half on a 17-5 run to make it 55-40 with 7:40 left. The Lady Bears shot 44 percent (25-of-57).

Marlies Gipson scored 14 points - all in the first half - and Kimberly Dietz scored 13 for the Wildcats (15-6, 7-1), who shot a lowly 34.5 percent (19-of-55) and saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end.
