Maryland recovers from slow start, outlasts Virginia Tech
Feb 5, 2008 - 2:38 AM BLACKSBURG, Virginia (Ticker) -- Kristi Toliver scored 28 points and Crystal Langhorne added 19 and 16 rebounds as fifth-ranked Maryland recovered from a horrific start to defeat Virginia Tech, 74-71, in overtime in an Atlantic Coast Conference thriller on Monday.The Hokies scored the game's first 11 points and had a 22-2 lead with 14:11 left in the first half.
After trailing by as many as 31-10, the Terrapins (24-2, 8-1 ACC) closed the gap to 39-29 at the break.
Virginia Tech was still in front, 58-48, with 7:15 left, but Maryland ended regulation on a 14-4 run - capped by Marissa Coleman's layup, which tied the game with 11 seconds left.
Laura Harper's layup with 3:12 left in overtime gave the Terrapins their first lead of the game at 66-64, and they led the rest of the way as Toliver made four free throws in the final 10 seconds.
Brittany Cook had 26 points and 14 rebounds and Andrea Barbour added 24 and four steals for the Hokies (13-10, 0-8), who have lost three in a row and eight of their last nine.
