Gipson's huge day helps Kansas State edge Kansas
Feb 9, 2008 - 11:58 PM MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- Marlies Gipson scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead No. 18 Kansas State to a 64-58 victory over rival Kansas on Saturday in a Big 12 contest.Gipson, who finished 8-of-16 from the floor, came up big late when the Wildcats cut the lead to 56-54 with less than 1 1/2 minutes left. She hit a jumper, then blocked Krysten Boogaard's shot and sealed the game by hitting four straight free throws.
Kimberly Dietz scored 15 points for Kansas State (16-6, 8-1 Big 12), which managed to win despite shooting just 38 percent (22-of-57) from the floor.
Boogaard scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Jayhawks (13-9, 2-7), who have lost 13 of the last 14 meetings between the teams.
