Morrow scores 24 as Syracuse escapes Marquette
Feb 10, 2008 - 11:31 PM SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Freshman Erica Morrow scored 24 points to help No. 24 Syracuse overcome a late charge and earn a 70-67 victory over Marquette on Sunday in a Big East Conference battle.Fantasia Goodwin scored nine points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Chandrea Jones and Nicole Michael chipped in 10 points apiece for the Orange (18-4, 6-3 Big East), who overcame 26 turnovers by dominating the glass, 48-34.
Syracuse led 52-38 after Vionca Murray's layup with 13:53 remaining, but Krystal Ellis' first 3-pointer of the game sparked a 27-12 run by the Golden Eagles that put the visitors on top, 65-64, with 4:02 to play. But the Orange made 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Ellis finished with 16 points on 5-of-19 shooting for Marquette (13-10, 5-5), which shot just 4-of-17 from the arc.
