Larkins paces North Carolina to eighth straight win
Feb 22, 2008 - 4:02 AM MIAMI (Ticker) -- Erlana Larkins scored 18 points to lead No. 2 North Carolina to a 79-61 victory over Miami in an Atlantic Coast Conference game on Thursday.Rashanda McCants scored 17 points and Rebecca Gray 15 for the Tar Heels (25-2, 12-0 ACC). McCants also had 10 rebounds for North Carolina, which has won eight consecutive games and 16 of its past 17.
Maurita Reid scored 18 points for the Hurricanes (9-17, 2-9), who have lost eight of their last nine games. Trailing 12-9, the Tar Heels scored 16 unanswered points in a 5:50 span in the first half to take the lead for good.
Jessica Breland had 13 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina, which leads Maryland by one game in the conference standings.
