Pitt upsets West Virginia in OT

Feb 27, 2008 - 6:37 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- LaQuita Owens scored 12 points, but missed two shots in the final five seconds of overtime on Tuesday as Pittsburgh held on to defeat No. 13 West Virginia, 77-75, in a Big East game.

Shavonte Zellous had 29 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Panthers (19-8, 9-5). Meg Bulger and Olayinka Sanni each had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Mountaineers (22-5, 11-3).

West Virginia's Chakhia Cole finished with 14 points, including a layup with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 68. Cole also had six rebounds and five assists.

Pittsburgh never trailed in overtime, taking a 77-73 lead when Mallorie Winn made the second of two free throws with 27 seconds remaining. Owens scored with 14 seconds to go to cut the Mountaineers' lead to 77-75. Zellous was then fouled, but missed both free throws.

Sanni grabbed the rebound on the second missed free throw. Owens missed a shot with five seconds to go, got the rebound and missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
