UTEP downs SMU, remains perfect in Conference USA
Feb 29, 2008 - 5:50 AM EL PASO, Texas (Ticker) -- Jareica Hughes scored 22 points as Texas-El Paso defeated Southern Methodist, 76-63, to remain undefeated in Conference USA action on Thursday night.Natasha Lacy scored 21 points and added eight rebounds for UTEP (24-2, 15-0), which amassed a 15-0 run over the final 4:23 of the contest.
The Miners hit 45 percent of their shots from the field and limited the SMU offense to just 36.5 percent shooting while forcing 15 turnovers.
Janielle Dodds scored 11 points and was the only player in double figures for the Mustangs (21-7, 11-4), who claimed a 44-36 advantage in rebounds but still allowed UTEP to score 38 points in the paint.
