No. 24 Vanderbilt wins third straight

Mar 2, 2008 - 10:15 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Merideth Marsh and Ashlee Bridge each scored 16 points on Sunday to lead No. 24 Vanderbilt to an 83-54 victory over Alabama in a Southeastern Conference game.

The Commodores (22-7, 11-3) never trailed against the Crimson Tide (8-21, 1-13) in their final contest of the regular season. Vanderbilt has won three straight and nine of its last 10 games and is the No. 3 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. Alabama finished the season in last place in the conference.

Jessica Mooney scored 11 points, while Christina Wirth had nine points, four assists and three steals for Vanderbilt. Jennifer Risper had five assists and six steals for the Commodores, who led 54-21 at halftime.

Tierney Jenkins scored a team-high 15 points and added four steals for the Crimson Tide. Varisia Raffington scored 11 points and Caitlin Hollifield 10, while Courtney Strauthers scored eight points and had a game-high 11 rebounds for Alabama.

Vanderbilt shot 66.7 percent (22-of-33) from the field in the first half in building the 33-point lead. The Commodores finished 10-of-24 from 3-point range and scored 30 points off 25 Crimson Tide turnovers.
