Fitz helps Marist women reach MAAC finals
Mar 8, 2008 - 8:10 PM ALBANY, New York (Ticker) -- Rachele Fitz scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as 20th-ranked Marist advanced to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament final with a 78-67 triumph over Saint Peter's on Saturday.Nikki Flores finished with 14 points but committed 10 turnovers for the Red Foxes (30-2), who shot 43 percent (19-of-44) from the field en route to their 20th consecutive victory.
Julianne Viani had 12 points and Sarah Smrdel added 10 for Marist, which has not lost to a conference opponent since February 16, 2007.
The Red Foxes will face Iona, a 74-69 winner over Fairfield, in Sunday's championship game.
Lauma Reke collected 16 points and Johnell Burts had 14 for the Peacocks (19-12), who shot just 33 percent (23-of-69) en route to their fifth straight loss to the Red Foxes.
