McCoughtry, Louisville topple No. 5 Rutgers

Mar 10, 2008 - 2:33 AM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Angel McCoughtry scored 20 points as Louisville upset defending champion and fifth-ranked Rutgers with a 57-56 victory in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament on Sunday.

Candyce Bingham scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the seventh-seeded Cardinals (23-8), who will face either West Virginia or South Florida in the semifinals on Monday.

Avenging a 70-57 loss to Rutgers on January 20, Louisville took a 57-56 lead when McCoughtry found Bingham inside with 33 seconds left.

Essence Carson, who finished with eight points, missed a jumper with 8.1 seconds left and the Cardinals' Chauntise Wright grabbed her fourth rebound. Although Louisville turned the ball over on an inbound pass, McCoughtry poked the ball away from Epiphanny Price as she attempted to get off a last-second shot.

Prince and Matee Ajavon scored 13 points apiece for Rutgers (24-6), which shot 50 percent (23-of-46) in a losing effort.
