McCoughtry powers Louisville to upset of West Virginia
Mar 11, 2008 - 4:52 AM HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Angel McCoughtry scored 24 points to lead Louisville to a 67-60 upset victory over No. 18 West Virginia in the semifinals of the Big East tournament on Monday night.McCoughtry made 7-of-18 shots from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds while Brandie Radde contributed 10 points for seventh-seeded Louisville (24-8), which opened the game on a 20-3 run over the first 6:46.
The Cardinals forged a 20-point lead at the half on the strength of 42 percent shooting while claiming a 23-12 edge in rebounds.
LaQuita Owens scored 23 points and Chakhia Cole added 15 and seven rebounds for third-seeded West Virginia (24-7), which narrowed the deficit to just six points with 90 seconds remaining in the game before McCoughtry sealed the victory for Louisville with a fast-break layup with 1:13 left to play.
The Cardinals, who ousted No. 7 Rutgers on Sunday, will face No. 1 Connecticut on Tuesday in the tournament final.
