Cole comes through late for West Virginia
Mar 23, 2008 - 4:55 AM ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- Chakhia Cole hit a jumper in the closing seconds to lead fifth-seeded West Virginia to a 61-60 victory over No. 12 New Mexico in a first-round matchup in the Spokane Region on Saturday.Cole finished with 22 points, including her jumper with 17 seconds to play that moved the Mountaineers (25-7) into the second round.
LaQuita Owens added 13 points for West Virginia, which led, 36-29, at the half but shot just 33 percent (10-of-30) in the second half.
Brandi Kimble scored 19 points and 10 rebounds and Dionne Marsh had 12 points for New Mexico (20-13).
