Barlow, rebounding key in Notre Dame's victory over SMU

Mar 23, 2008 - 9:59 PM WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Ashley Barlow had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Charel Allen added 14 and 11 as fifth-seeded Notre Dame held off Southern Methodist, 75-62, in an Oklahoma City Regional first-round contest on Sunday.

Becca Bruszewski scored 16 points off the bench for the Fighting Irish (24-8), who outrebounded SMU, 49-25, and had 20 second-chance points. Notre Dame will face Oklahoma in the second round.

The Irish had a 17-point lead in the first half, but the Mustangs cut the deficit to four at the break and eventually tied the game at 57-57 with 4:42 remaining.

But Notre Dame answered with a 14-0 run to take a 71-57 lead with 1 1/2 minutes to play, putting the game out of reach.

Janielle Dodds and Jillian Samuels each scored 14 points to lead the Mustangs (24-9), who shot 39 percent (21-of-54) from the floor.
