Moore, Connecticut cruise over Cornell
Mar 24, 2008 - 5:12 AM BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Freshman Maya Moore had 17 points and eight rebounds and Charde Houston scored 14 points off the bench as top-seeded Connecticut had no problems with 16th-seeded Cornell, posting an 89-47 victory in first-round action from the Greensboro Regional on Sunday.The Huskies (33-1) shot 54 percent (38-of-70) from the floor and will face either eighth seed Texas in the second round.
Connecticut scored the game's first seven points and held a 29-7 lead after Renee Montgomery's 3-pointer with 10:07 left in the first half. Connecticut led by 30 points at the break and the contest was never in doubt during the second half.
Gretchen Gregg and Allie Fedorowicz each scored eight points to lead the Big Red (20-9), who shot just 21 percent (12-of-56) from the field and committed 23 turnovers.
