Fowles, LSU pull away from Marist
Mar 25, 2008 - 2:34 AM NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Sylvia Fowles had 19 points and 13 rebounds as second-seeded Louisiana State pulled away in the second half for a 68-49 victory over No. 7 Marist in a second-round game of the New Orleans Regional.Erica White added 15 points, four steals and four assists for the Lady Tigers (29-5), who snapped the Red Foxes' 22-game winning streak.
LSU advances to play No. 3 seed Oklahoma State on Saturday in a "Sweet 16" matchup.
Leading by just two points at halftime, LSU shot 55 percent (17-of-31) to break away from Marist (32-3), which was making its second straight appearance in the second round.
Julianne Viana scored 21 points, including five 3-pointers for the Red Foxes, who committed 19 turnovers that led to 28 points for the Lady Tigers.
