McCoughtry leads Louisville past Kansas State
Mar 26, 2008 - 3:25 AM BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Angel McCoughtry scored 24 points and Candyce Bingham had a double-double to lead fourth-seeded Louisville to an 80-63 victory over No. 5 Kansas State in a New Orleans Regional matchup on Tuesday.Louisville (26-9) advanced to the "Sweet 16," where it will face either No. 1 North Carolina or No. 8 Georgia.
The Cardinals are in the regional semifinals for the first time since 2002. They lost in the first round of the tournament in 2005 and 2006 and were ousted in the second round last year.
McCoughtry added seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals and Bingham had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Louisville, which led, 41-28, at the half.
Ashley Sweat scored 16 points for Kansas State (22-10), which committed 18 turnovers that were converted into 30 points.
