Moore, Connecticut cruise past Texas
Mar 26, 2008 - 6:29 AM BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Freshman Maya Moore had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Renee Montgomery added 17 points as top-seeded Connecticut crushed eighth-seeded Texas, 89-55, in the second round of the Greensboro Regional on Tuesday.Tina Charles chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds for the Huskies, who shot 60 percent (39-of-65) from the floor and will face Old Dominion in the regional semifinals on Sunday.
Connecticut (34-1) jumped out to a 13-2 lead less than four minutes into the game and held a 48-30 bulge at the break. The Longhorns never got closer than 18 during the second half.
Carla Cortijo had 18 points and six assists to lead Texas (22-13), which shot just 35 percent (21-of-60) from the field and was outrebounded, 40-24.
