Wiggins, Stanford soar into Final Four
Apr 1, 2008 - 4:54 AM SPOKANE, Washington (Ticker) -- Candice Wiggins would not be denied a trip to the Final Four.Wiggins poured in 41 points to lead second-seeded Stanford to a 98-87 victory over top seed Maryland in the Spokane Regional final Monday night.
The second 40-point performance of the tournament by Wiggins - a first in NCAA Tournament history - sent the Cardinal (34-3) into a Final Four matchup against the winner of Connecticut and Rutgers.
Wiggins finished 10-of-22 from the floor and buried 16-of-19 free-throw attempts to overcome a brilliant performance by Kristi Toliver and Maryland (33-4).
Toliver scored 35 points for the Terrapins, who shot a blistering 54 percent (33-of-61) and outrebounded the Cardinal, 36-29.
JJ Jones added 23 points and Kayla Pedersen had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds for Stanford, which connected on 14-of-28 3-point attempts.
