Thomas powers Vanderbilt past Dartmouth

Nov 19, 2006 - 2:10 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Carla Thomas was too tough inside for Dartmouth.

Thomas scored 21 points to lead the 15th-ranked Commodores to an easy 79-49 victory over the Big Green.

A 6-3 senior forward, Thomas was unstoppable against undersized Dartmouth, which has only one player on its roster over six feet tall.

Thomas shot 8-of-10 from the field and sparked a late first-half run that put Vanderbilt (3-0) in command.

With the Commodores leading, 18-14, Thomas scored 10 points in a 14-5 run to make it 32-19 en route to a 41-27 halftime advantage.

Thomas opened the second half with a three-point play and 6-4 center Liz Sherwood added six points as Vandy extended the lead to 53-28.

Ashley Taylor and Koren Schram led Dartmouth (0-2) with 11 points apiece.
