Davenport, Ohio State cruise past USC

Nov 19, 2006 - 9:19 PM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- There is a reason many people think Ohio State's Jessica Davenport will be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 WNBA draft.

Davenport scored 26 points and hauled in six rebounds as No. 6 Ohio State posted a 77-58 victory over No. 20 USC.

The two-time Big Ten Player of the Year was 9-of-14 from the field while senior teammate Brandie Hoskins added 17 points and seven assists for the Buckeyes, who shot 51 percent (26-of-51).

Ohio State (2-0), which shot 64 percent in the first half to take a 35-24 lead, has now won four of its last five meetings vs. USC, and is 4-3 all-time vs. the Trojans.

Chloe Kerr scored 20 points and Eshaya Murphy added 19 and 11 rebounds for USC, which shot 37 percent (23-of-62) and committed 22 turnovers.

The Trojans (1-2) were coming off a 67-63 upset loss at South Dakota State on Friday night, where they had 25 turnovers and shot 33 percent from the field.
