McCollin's shooting helps Hofstra upset Michigan State
Nov 23, 2006 - 4:32 AM EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Cigi McCollin's sizzling shooting from outside signalled defeat for Michigan State.McCollin hit five 3-pointers en route to 24 points as Hofstra upended No. 16 Michigan State with a 57-53 upset.
The senior guard shot 7-of-14 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from the arc, and grabbed seven rebounds.
Vanessa Gidden scored 12 points and Lana Harshaw added eight and 11 rebounds for the Pride (3-1), which had a 27-20 lead at the half and held on for the win despite shooting 31 percent (9-of-29) in the second half.
Rene Haynes scored 14 points and handed out six assists, but also committed five of the Spartans' 18 turnovers. Hofstra scored 22 points off those miscues.
Aisha Jefferson scored 10 points and Allyssa DeHaan pulled down 10 boards for Michigan State (2-1).
