DeHaan too much as Michigan State routs Rhode Island
Nov 30, 2006 - 3:35 AM EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Allyssa DeHaan scored a season-high 28 points and No. 18 Michigan State pushed around Rhode Island in a 67-40 victory.Katrina Grantham pulled down 11 rebounds and DeHaan grabbed 10 for Michigan State (5-1), which held a 52-21 advantage on the glass and outscored Rhode Island, 46-12, in the paint.
A 6-9 freshman, DeHaan made 11-of-14 shots and blocked five shots as she simply overwhelmed the Rams at both ends of the floor. The Spartans shot 49 percent (26-of-53) from the field.
DeHaan scored 14 points in the first half as Michigan State opened a 36-20 lead and cruised thereafter. The Spartans led by as many as 29 points.
Safi Modiji scored 12 points for Rhode Island (1-6), which shot just 28 percent (17-of-60) and attempted just one free throw.
