Walker's stellar shooting leads Cal to Contra Costa title

Dec 4, 2006 - 4:51 AM BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- Ashley Walker made sure that California continued to reign in the Contra Costa Times Classic.

Walker scored a career-high 27 points as the No. 16 Golden Bears captured their third straight tournament title with an 81-62 victory over Arkansas State.

The tournament MVP, Walker shot 10-of-13 from the field, grabbed eight rebounds and collected four steals.

Alexis Gray-Lawson had 17 points and Keanna Levy added 12 for California (6-1), which shot 55 percent (17-of-31) in the first half to take a 45-34 lead at the half. The Bears led by double digits from thereon out.

California had a definite advantage inside, finishing with a 44-16 margin in points in the paint and 41-28 edge in rebounding.

Rudy Sims scored 19 points and leading scorer Adrianna Davie managed 14 before fouling out for the Lady Indians (5-4), who shot 31 percent (8-of-26) after the break.
