Top-ranked Maryland women destroy Northern Iowa
Dec 7, 2006 - 5:27 AM CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (Ticker) -- Kristi Toliver scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack as top-ranked and unbeaten Maryland toyed with Northern Iowa, 77-33.Laura Harper scored 13 points and Crystal Langhorne added 12 for the Terrapins (11-0), who had six players with at least eight points and played no one more than 28 minutes.
The defending national champions opened with an 11-2 burst and built a 35-8 halftime lead, shooting 50 percent (14-of-28) from the field while holding Northern Iowa to a miserable 11 percent (4-of-35).
The Terrapins finished at 55 percent (32-of-58) and held a 47-34 rebounding edge led by eight from Marissa Coleman, who also contributed nine points.
Tara King scored 10 points on 4-of-19 shooting and Megan Keefe added eight on 4-of-15 for Northern Iowa (2-5), which shot under 21 percent (14-of-68). Guard Jessie Biggs was 1-of-12.
