Walker helps No. 17 California top Fresno State

Dec 8, 2006 - 7:16 AM BERKELEY, California (Ticker) -- Fresno State had no answer for Ashley Walker.

Walker collected 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead four players in double figures as 17th-ranked California coasted to a 77-62 triumph over the Bulldogs in a non-conference matchup.

A native of Modesto, Walker connected on 8-of-12 shots and made all seven of her free throws. The 6-1 sophomore also recorded a career-high seven blocks.

The Golden Bears (7-1) used an impressive 17-4 surge in the first half to help create a 39-26 bulge at intermission.

Devanei Hampton drained a jumper with just under 11 minutes remaining to push Cal's advantage to 58-38 - its largest of the game.

Hampton scored 17 points and Keanna Levy had 14 and seven rebounds for the Golden Bears, who held a 46-17 edge in points in the paint.

Chantella Perera scored 19 points and Tierre Wilson added 18 for Fresno State (4-3), which shot just 32 percent (20-of-61) from the floor and committed 16 turnovers.
