Norfolk State beats Winston-Salem 28-21

Nov 21, 2009 - 10:40 PM NORFOLK, Va.(AP) -- Dennis Brown threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bell with 1:26 left in the third quarter, and Norfolk State held on for a 28-21 win over Winston-Salem on Saturday in the season finale for both teams.

The Spartans (6-4) broke a 14-14 tie on DeAngelo Branche's 19-yard touchdown run less than 1 minute into the third. But Jean Julmiste's 12-yard touchdown pass to Omar Kizzie pulled the Rams (1-9) even at 21 with 7:44 left in the third, setting up Brown's game-winning TD pass.

Norfolk State's defense held the lead in the fourth, recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass on separate Rams drives in the Spartans' half of the field.

Branche rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns for the Spartans. Brown, who was 12-for-28 for 260 yards, threw a TD and three interceptions.

Julmiste threw for 60 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Rams.
