Butler turns back Central Connecticut State 28-23

Dec 5, 2009 - 8:18 PM INDIANAPOLIS(AP) -- Quarterback Andrew Huck ran for three touchdowns to lead Butler to a 28-23 victory over Central Connecticut State in the Gridiron Classic on Saturday.

Huck rushed only nine times for 41 yards but made his carries count. His scoring runs covered 10, 19 and 7 yards. He also completed 15 of 21 passes for 182 yards.

Scott Gray, who rushed 15 times for 88 yards, scored Butler's other TD on a 2-yard run.

Eric Richardson scored on 1- and 2-yard runs for Central Connecticut State, and James Mallory, who rushed 21 times for 109 yards, ran 5 yards for a touchdown.

The Bulldogs (11-1) picked up the first postseason victory in school history and set a school record for wins. The Blue Devils (9-3) matched their school record for victories.

The Gridiron Classic pits the champions of the Pioneer Football League and the Northeast Conference.
