Azusa Pacific runs to 42-14 victory over San Diego

Sep 5, 2010 - 4:30 AM SAN DIEGO(AP) -- Johnell Murphy ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns Saturday night to lead Azusa Pacific past longtime rival San Diego 42-14.

Murphy led an offense that churned out 325 net yards on the ground to San Diego's 42 and scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half.

The Cougars' defense kept San Diego off the scoreboard in the second half and added a late touchdown on a 34-yard fumble recovery return by defensive end Kory Johnson.

John van den Raadt was 15 of 25 for 156 yards and a touchdown and ran for 158 yards.

Sam Scudellari was 15 of 31 for 188 yards and connected with Kyle Warren on first-half scoring strikes of 61 and 25 yards.

Van den Raadt threw 6 yards to Tyson Hetzer for a touchdown and Chris Kilmer scored from the 1 in the first half, which ended 14-14.
