Southern Miss beats Prairie View 34-7

Sep 12, 2010 - 4:24 AM HATTIESBURG, Miss.(AP) -- Southern Miss bounced back with a 34-7 win Saturday night over Prairie View after struggling in its season opener.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) rebounded from their lackluster performance last week - a 41-13 loss to South Carolina. Southern Miss rolled up 464 yards of total offense. It was the largest margin of victory for the Golden Eagles since a 52-0 win over Alcorn State last year.

Southern Miss' Austin Davis threw for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception, despite sitting out the fourth quarter. DeAndre Brown caught five passes for 100 yards and a score.

Kendrick Hardy carried 20 times for 86 yards to lead Southern Miss' ground game, which gained 253 yards.

The Southern Miss defense, which allowed 449 yards against South Carolina, held Prairie View (1-1) to 211 yards of total offense to help the Golden Eagles advance to 4-0 all-time against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents.
