Davis leads Southern Miss over Memphis 41-19

Oct 16, 2010 - 7:45 PM MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Austin Davis threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Southern Mississippi to a 41-19 victory over Memphis.

Davis completed 19 of 30 passes. Receiver Kelvin Bolden had eight receptions for 154 yards and one touchdown as the Golden Eagles (5-2, 2-1 Conference USA) won for the fifth time in their last six games. Their lone loss in the streak was the previous week to East Carolina 44-43.

Kendrick Hardy rushed for 101 yards on 11 carries and a second-half touchdown for Southern Miss.

The Golden Eagles defense, ranked 11th in the nation in yards allowed per game (a 291-yard average) did its job, limiting the Tigers (1-6, 0-4) to 269 yards, including only 32 on the ground.

Memphis quarterback Ryan Williams was 11-for-21 passing for 237 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
