Southern Utah tops Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo 20-7

Oct 17, 2010 - 1:02 AM CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Brad Sorensen threw for 253 yards and a touchdown to lead Southern Utah to a 20-7 victory over Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo on Saturday.

The Thunderbirds (3-4, 2-0 Great West) scored first on a short run by Deck Alexander in the opening quarter.

They followed up in the second quarter with a touchdown throw from Sorensen to Tysson Poots to make it 14-0.

Southern Utah's Brock Miller went on to kick a pair of field goals in the second half, making it 20-0.

The Mustangs (4-3, 0-1) were facing their first shutout in 12 years with less than four minutes left when quarterback Andre Broadous connected with Mark Rodgers for the touchdown.

Broadous finished with 201 yards passing and a game-leading 65 yards rushing.

Sorensen was 18 for 22 passing but was sacked three times.
