White rallies Richmond past Massachusetts 11-10

Oct 17, 2010 - 12:32 AM AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Pressed into action with Richmond's top three quarterbacks missing the game because of injuries, true freshman Montel White threw a game-winning touchdown pass with 9 seconds left to beat Massachusetts 11-10 on Saturday.

White drove the Spiders (3-3, 1-2 Colonial Athletic Association) 60 yards in eight plays, ending with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tre Gray. White completed 4 of 5 passes for 47 yards on the drive. His only other pass was incomplete.

Caleb Violette's 25-yard field goal with 1:51 left gave the Minutemen (4-2, 2-1) a 10-5 lead.

A first-quarter safety put Richmond ahead 2-0, but Massachusetts took a 7-2 lead after a 7-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Havens to Andrew Krevis in the second quarter.

Havens fumbled on a third-quarter sack, leading to a 33-yard Will Kamin field goal.

Linebacker Mike Mele had a career-high 14 tackles for Massachusetts.
