Western Illinois tops Youngstown State 40-38

Oct 17, 2010 - 4:23 AM MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -- Matt Barr threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Lito Senatus with a minute to play Saturday night, giving Western Illinois a wild 40-38 victory over Youngstown State.

Youngstown State (3-4, 1-3 Missouri Valley) built a 24-14 halftime lead behind the running of Jamaine Cook, who finished with 161 yards, and Adaris Bellamy, who ended up with three touchdowns.

But the Leathernecks (5-2, 3-1) rallied behind Barr, who threw for 302 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two more scores. In a back-and-forth second half, Cook's 5-yard run with 5:27 to play gave the Penguins a 38-34 lead. But Barr and the Leathernecks drove for the winning points on three passes to Senatus, for 15, 33 and the final 17 for the score. The extra point was no good but Western Illinois kept Youngstown State from getting a first down.
