Northwestern State takes 16-3 win over Texas State

Oct 24, 2010 - 12:33 AM SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) -- Northwestern State's defense made four sacks and held Texas State to just 57 yards on the ground as the Demons took a 16-3 victory over the Bobcats on Saturday.

D.J. Shaw accounted for two sacks for the Demons (3-4, 2-1 Southland) while Lamont Simmons and Derek Rose each had one.

The Demons got the lead in the first quarter on a short scoring run by Sterling Endsley.

The Bobcats (3-4, 0-3) then got their only points of the game in the second quarter when Justin Garelick nailed a field goal from 42 yards.

John Shaughnessy kicked a 50 yard field goal and Kedon Franklin picked up a blocked punt return in the end zone to help the Demons widen their lead in the second half.

Despite the ground game, the Bobcats' Tyler Arndt led the day in passing with 156 yards.

The Demons' Paul Harris finished throwing 10 for 19 for 130 yards.
